Team performance sees Hawkley earn victory

Frensham v Hawkley: HAWKLEY won the toss and batted first.

It looked like a perfect afternoon for batting with Frensham’s short boundaries and fast outfield, however, Hawkley got off to the worst possible start when Paul Cross was bowled first ball.

Rory Evans and Clive Hopkins built a good partnership, Evans hitting a six and three fours on his way to a total of 24, while Hopkins played the anchor role for a patient 28.

James Pringle and Steve Clark carried on the work, with both batsmen scoring mostly in boundaries.

Pringle was stumped on 51 while Clark hit three sixes on his way to 58 before he was bowled by the leg-spin of Dibdin, Frensham’s most successful bowler with 4-22.

Hawkley’s remaining batsmen all chipped in with useful runs as the visitors were bowled out for 205.

Frensham’s reply stuttered when Evans bowled Weeks in his first over and Nick Hudson bowled Cousins a couple of overs later.

Frensham’s batsmen started to rebuild the innings, however, runs were hard to come by and they fell further behind the run rate before Hallam Brown took the third wicket in the 21st over with the score on 73.

Lloyd always threatened with the bat and hit seven fours and three sixes on his way to 53. However, Brown eventually claimed his wicket on his way to 3-28, while Cross took 3-38. With Frensham well short of their target it was left to Oliver Galliford and Pringle to take a wicket each to see Hawkley to victory by 72 runs.
