Travellers given notice to leave Clanfield site

A NOTICE has been served to a group of travellers who pitched up in Clanfield on Wednesday.

The visitors will be removed by bailiffs if they don’t vacate the site off Whiteland Way by 11pm this evening (Friday, July 14).

Land owners, Barratt Homes, decided to take legal action after the travellers reneged on their pledge to leave the site on Thursday.

“A notice to vacate was served this morning and, by law, those illegally on the land must leave by 11pm this evening,” said construction director, Jon Green, in a statement.

Gates to the South Lane Meadow and Peel Park areas were closed by Clanfield Parish Council (CPC) shortly after the travellers, who previously pitched up Winchester, arrive at Whiteland Way.

Questions are likely to be asked when CPC meet next Tuesday, July 18, as plans on how to prevent travellers from pitching up at the site have been regularly discussed in the past.
