Horndean cafe becomes first place in Hampshire to stock Apprentice winner's cakes

HE’S RENOWNED for putting his money where his mouth is as the head honcho of hit BBC1 show, The Apprentice.

But Sir Alan Sugar’s latest investment hasn’t been to everyone’s tastes, according to staff at a Horndean café.

Oh So’s café became the first premises in Hampshire to stock the Ridiculously Rich cakes which Alana Spencer persuaded the mogul to invest £250,000 in at the end of the last series.

While the quality and taste is “superb”, according to co-owner Chris Hedger, the wholesale price and distribution policy has been a little hard to swallow, especially as they cost around a third more than other in-cafe varieties.

He said: “We contacted them shortly after Alana won it and we assumed they would be producing them in big quantities.

“They are very nice but supplying them has been a bit of an issue as they’re sending them in the normal post.”

The proof is in the pudding and the cakes will remain on sale in the village centre cafe for the foreseeable future.

But has Sir Alan made a good investment? “I don’t think so,” is Mr Hedger’s verdict. He added: “When you say to people they’re made by Alana some reply ‘I don’t care if they’re handmade by Sir Alan Sugar himself’.”
